Moussa Dembélé: Heading to the top but with who?

I remember watching Moussa Dembélé during his days at AZ Alkmaar and thinking to myself what a fine footballer this fella was going to be. Fast-forward five or six years, and Moussa is plying his trade in top league in the world, with Fulham. However, he might not be a Cottager for much longer as the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and even Real Madrid, have all been linked with a move for the skillful Belgian. Read On →

Southampton have more than enough to secure Premier League safety

Rickie Lambert celebrates after scoring against Manchester City

There’s something nostalgic about Southampton’s timely return to the Premier League. I remember the days Anders Svensson, James Beattie, Brett Ormerod to name a few. Who could ever forget James Beattie’s penalty taking technique? And those 23 goals his scored in the league?
A decade or so on and Southampton have built themselves up from the lowest of the low and have reached the adored Premier League again. This time, the likes of Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana will hope to fire Southampton to safety, despite a rather frustrating start. Last weekends defeat at home to Wigan Athletic, had papers claiming that the Saints would find it hard to keep themselves in the top division this season, however from their first performances away to champions Manchester City: Nigel Adkins side have plenty in their locker to stay afloat.

Joey Barton announces intention to leave QPR in Twitter statement

Joey Barton

If you follow Joey Barton on Twitter, you will have noticed his use of French in the last week or so amid reports that Marseille will bring the troubled midfielder to Stade Vélodrome.
This evening however, Joey has brought it a step further and announced his desire to leave QPR after feeling he has been forced out of the club. As you know, Barton is currently serving a lengthy ban for heated exchanges which saw him red carded on the final day of last season and as slim as his chances were of regaining a starting role at Loftus Road at the end of the ban; his chances are well and truly nonexistent now.

The Return of El Guaje

Sunday night must have been well worth the wait for newly bearded David Villa. Not only did he finally make his long-awaited return to football; he also got on the score sheet, in front of a rapturous reception at Camp Nou. As soon as his feet hit the manicured blades of grass that populate the Camp Nou, he knew the response would be, as is the mantra of How I Met Your Mother’s Barney Stinson, legendary. Read On →

Steven Fletcher: One of the most underrated strikers in the Premier League

Steven Fletcher in action for Wolves in the Premier League

Before anyone comments; I know Wolves have been relegated to the npower Championship, and that technically, Steven Fletcher is no longer a Premier League striker.
However, that will change before the summer transfer window closes on September the 1st, with Sunderland looking to spend a sizeable £14m on the former Burnley man.
In the last few days, many Sunderland fans have expressed their dismay at the reported fee of £14m, and the majority of neutral fans believe that Martin O’Neill is paying over the odds. SAFC fans would have expected the signing of Fletcher to be a very straight forward matter as in most cases, relegated clubs have to sell their key men in order to prepare their club for the coming season.

Who do Everton look to after Rodwell departs Goodison?

Jack Rodwell in action for Everton

While all the focus for Manchester City has been on Robin van Persie and his potential arrival at the Etihad, they’ve managed to sneak one signing under most of our noses.
Jack Rodwell, Everton’s prodigy, will undergo a medical in Manchester later today ahead of a completing a reported £15m move.
Many people will question this move on City’s behalf, and will wonder where exactly Rodwell will fit in. However, he is only 21 years old and has his best years ahead of him. A likely replacement for an ageing Gareth Barry , who might well have his finest days behind him in a Citizens shirt.

Romelu Lukaku has the ability to fire West Brom to success

Romelu Lukaku in action for Chelsea during pre-season

I must say I’m quite surprised by this move.
Romelu Lukaku, lured from Belgium for a reported fee of £18m just last summer, hasn’t really had much playing time in a Chelsea shirt and this move to West Brom should provide him with regular Premier League football. A very physical, and commanding CF; Lukaku will prove a real bundle for any opposition this season. Fulham were looking to land the 19 year-old but West Brom have managed to get a deal over the line to mark a fantastic piece of business by Steve Clarke.
The Belgian will no doubt - providing he gets appropriate service - fire West Brom up the table and they could well exceed expectations if they can play him to his strengths.

A big season for Manchester United and Sir Alex Ferguson

Sir Alex Ferguson during an interview"

When Sergio Agüero smashed home that goal in the 94th minute at the Etihad on the final day of the season, it sent a message to all associated with Manchester United that City - their biggest rivals - meant business.
Finally, after years of watching their neighbours enjoy incredible success in almost every club competition, City themselves had managed to capture the league trophy in the most dramatic of finishes I’ve ever had the pleasure of watching. As the 201213 Premier League approaches, Mancini and MCFC will be hoping to retain the title while also attempting to bring the coveted Champions League trophy to the Blueside of Manchester.
